  • Job Description

    General Dynamics IT is currently looking for a Research Technician, specialized in nanomaterial formulations for biomedical applications to join our team to support the Naval Medical Research Unit at Ft. Sam Houston – San Antonio, Texas. You will have a key role utilizing your expert knowledge in delivering excellent technical support to our client!

     

    • Optimize and execute laboratory procedures and assays for fabrication and characterization of nanomaterial formulations for biomedical applications
    • Perform procedures for functionalization of nanoparticles
    • Characterize materials and formulations using methods and analytical instruments including UV-Vis, DLS, Zeta Potential, FT-IR, XRD, and HPLC
    • Evaluate stability and performance of fabricated nanomaterials by determining loading/release profiles
    • Prepare samples for analysis by SEM and TEM
    • Perform biocompatibility studies using standard in vitro cytotoxicity assays
    • Assist in preparation of proposals, reports, data summaries, manuscripts, conference abstracts, and presentations
    • Provide data summaries at project meetings
    • Perform general laboratory support tasks such as preparing SOPs, maintaining clear and accurate laboratory records, routine safety procedures to maintain compliance with established laboratory safety rules, and maintaining supply inventory.

     

    Education

    • MS in field of chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, or equivalent with 2+ years of laboratory experience.
    • Will consider BS with 3+ years of laboratory experience specific to areas detailed in this position description.

    Qualifications

     

    • Routine mammalian cell culture techniques and cell viability assays
    • Routine microbiology procedures for growing, quantifying, and imaging planktonic and biofilm fungal and bacterial cultures
    • Experience with in vivo models including small and large animal handling, tissue collection, and wound healing models is a plus
    • Experience with developing and testing wound dressing formulations is a plus
    • Experience with LC-MS is a plus
    • Ability to make and record detailed observations and troubleshoot technical procedures
    • Perform scientific literature searches as necessary to optimize laboratory procedures or help draft documents
    • Must possess excellent attention to detail and be able to review data to provide accurate, complete, and clear data summaries in a timely manner to the PI and other research team members
    • Ability to perform basic statistics and mathematical calculations
    • Experience using MSWord, MSPowerPoint, MSExcel spreadsheets, and graphing software such as GraphPad Prism or SigmaPlot
    • Must have good teamwork skills, be open to new challenges, and possess the ability to communicate effectively with senior technical staff to follow directions and provide feedback
