Job Description

The Global Solutions Division (GSD) of General Dynamics IT (GDIT) is seeking a Solution Architect, with specialized experience in Cloud Computing / Cloud engineering. The Department of Defense is accelerating its movement toward use of cloud computing and this role requires someone with a mix of technical, management, and strategic insight.


  • Developing technical / operational solutions for a broad set of cloud computing opportunities within DoD to include IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
  • Meeting with customers to discern requirements. Dissecting, shaping and analyzing requirements in support of DoD operational / mission and GDIT business goals.
  • Crafting proposal / RFI responses while developing candidate working solution architectures to meet customer requirements.
  • Provide GDIT GSD technical leadership to high visibility programs such as the implementation of cloud computing as it relates to the Navy’s Naval Network Environment (NNE) and the Air Force’s Enterprise IT as a Service effort as well as other new or existing programs.
  • Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems.

Additional Responsibilities:


1. Performs expert-level systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, firmware development, model formulation, manufacturing and development cost projections, computer architecture analysis and design, and analog or digital systems engineering.


2. Develops technical roadmaps for future implementations.


3. Develops business case analysis on potential projects.


4. Ensures security is integrated into all architecture solutions.


5. Performs advanced systems modeling, simulation, and analysis.


6. Acts as a subject-matter expert to multiple tasks and/or programs.


7. Reviews completion and implementation of system additions and/or enhancements and makes recommendations to management and/or clients.


8. Plans and directs upgrades of operating systems and designs systems enhancements.


9. Identifies, analyzes, and resolves system problems.


10. Determines system specifications, input/output processes, and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.


11. Serves as a chief architect and/or program architect..


12. Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced systems engineers and may have supervisory responsibilities.


13. Serves as primary liaison with senior clients, participating in meetings to ensure client needs are met.


14. Provides high level expertise to multiple projects and tasks.


15. Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.


16. Participates in special projects as required.


1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.


2. Master's Degree preferred.


  • 20 or more years of related systems engineering experience.
  • Must be able to independently, or part of a team, develop/engineer overall customer solutions sets for cloud hosting and application migration.
  • Provide Technical SME support for delivery of cloud enablement and capabilities to potential DoD customers in support of the GDIT Business Development Team.
  • As a cloud computing SME, develop presentations, white papers and responses to Request for Information (RFI) showcasing the capabilities of GDIT as well as solutions sets tailored for individual customers.
  • Serve in the role of Solution Architect for strategic captures, developing detailed customer solutions based on government solicitations that distinguish GDIT from our competitors in solving customer requests.
  • Lead the development of labor estimates for proposal responses, performing trade-offs to produce the best value for the customer based on solicitation requirements.
  • Lead an integrated technical team composed of Solution Architects, Domain SMEs, and subcontractors in the development and production of technical solution sets for customers.
  • Experience as a Technical SME in leading and capturing DoD IT contracts in excess of $50M.
  • Hands-on experience with new program start-ups, developing the Technical Concept of Operations (CONOPS) for project performance, selecting staff, training and mentoring, and development of technical delivery framework.
  • Serve as a technical SME to existing projects, provide leadership, guidance, and surge support with SME in Cloud services.


Desired Skills:

  • Direct experience supporting DoD customers transition to and operation in the cloud, to include Microsoft Azure Government, Amazon Web Services GovCloud, and the AWS Intelligence Cloud.
  • Certification in products from Microsoft, or Amazon or similar.
  • DoD IAT Level III certification (CISSP or CASP)
  • Experience in Navy networks or Navy data centers.
