The Network Administrator Sr. applies comprehensive technical knowledge to solve complex communications equipment problems that are not beyond the scope of information obtained from manufacturers’ manuals or similar documents; familiarity with the interrelationships of circuits and judgement in determining work sequence an in selecting tools and testing instruments. He/She has a thorough knowledge of the principles of internet protocols and electronics as they apply to network engineering practices and techniques involving electrical and electronic circuitry and the ability to interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, manuals, handbooks and technical specifications. The Network Administrator Sr. installs, repairs, tests and checkout communications and networking equipment using appropriate test equipment.
The Network Administrator Sr. provides systems operation expertise and integration of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Ethernet, SONET, proprietary and military-unique control systems network architectures and topologies. Systems network expertise must be gained via implementation experience with specialized equipment and components including: Linkway; I-Direct; Cisco; Channel Master; 3COM; Wegner; and other routers, switches, and bridges for various C4 systems. The Network Administrator Sr. must implement highly-secure command & control and force protection architectures that fully meet U.S. Government systems design/implementation standards as outlined in current USACE Directives and Information Assurance specification documents, such as Defense Information System Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG). Systems implementation must employ specified Information Assurance tools such as software encryption/firewalls and other INFOSEC techniques to provide unique/individual network access.
The Network Administrator Sr. has extensive experience in providing this support for C4 systems such as military communication systems, LAN/WAN and wireless systems, commercial satellite systems, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), Network Operating Center, telephony and teleport connectivity, Joint Operations Center (JOC) and Network Operations Center (NOC), VTC (Video Teleconference) and cellular telephone systems.
Specialized expertise is provided by the Network Administrator Sr. for United States Army Corps of Engineer programs, encompassing: knowledge of communications protocols and file transfer capabilities to ensure robust communications links; perform tests, installs, configures, and maintains networks including hardware (servers, firewalls, TACLANES, switches, and routers) and software that permit the sharing/transmission of the information; ability and/or experience in planning, designing, developing, and integrating network systems with existing or planned network infrastructures. Ensures network services support business requirements; tests/installs/configures/maintains District LAN/WAN networks including hardware (circuits, servers, switches, firewalls, ASAs, routers, VOIP, VoSIP and TACLANES); utilizes network monitoring/performance tools (CISCO Works, solar winds, etc.), for diagnostic, system upgrades, workload and capacity analysis, and system backup/recovery. Implements software for sharing/transmission of information; plans/designs/develops/integrates network systems
