Job Description

The Principal Engineer, Virtual Desktop Engineer is a subject matter expert responsible for the virtualized desktop environment and sequencing of application packages within the Enterprise.
Specific responsibilities include:

Serve as an expert in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) IT systems architecture and perform application packaging of customer approved software for use in VDI environments.  Service will include the coordination between customer, Software Sub-Committee (SSC), and other customer stakeholders as necessary. Provide well-thought-out recommendations on complex or ambiguous IT architecture issues. Coordinate with internal IT and Division stakeholders to determine requirements. Ensure that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency. Establish and communicate common goals and direction within the Mobility Team. Focus on VDI design, deployment and sustainment using VMware or Citrix technologies; display the ability to evaluate vendors or products to build and deploy an end-to-end enterprise design based on client requirements, including server, network, storage, and end-user device infrastructure.



A strong background in the deployment and support of virtualization technologies:
Virtualized Infrastructure
Desktop Virtualization (non-persistent)
Application Virtualization
Researches, designs, develops and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software.
Designs, develops, tests, and debugs complex new software products, or makes significant enhancements to existing software.
Resolves complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design considerations.
Researches emerging technologies to determine impact on application execution.
Provides input to staff involved in writing and updating technical documentation such as user manuals, system documentation, and training materials.
Troubleshoots complex problems and provides customer support for software operating systems and application issues.
Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced software engineers.
Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
Participates in special projects as required.


Skills Requirement:
5+ years of experience with designing and supporting VDI environments to include application virtualization.
Expertise in the following technology areas:
Windows 7/ 10 image deployment and development.
Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
Experience scripting with a scripting language (prefer Powershell).
VMware Horizon, VMware ESXi, vCenter, and related components.
Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, App Layering (formerly UniDesk), and related components.
Liquidware FlexApp and ProfileUnity deployment, configuration and application sequencing.


Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.


8-10 years of directly related experience supporting:
Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp, App Layering (formerly UniDesk) and related technologies.
VMware Horizon, vSphere/ESXi, and related technologies
Liquidware FlexApp and Profile Unity


Suggested Certifications: 


MCSA: Windows Server 2012/2016 or equivalent work experience
MCSE: Windows Server 2012/2016 or equivalent work experience
VMware (VCA6/7-DTM, VCP6/7-DTM, VCA6/6.5-DCV, VCP6/6.5-DCV)
